National memory institutions' social media policies and risk management: a content analysis

Purpose Among the current discourses around social media risk management (SMRM) is whether institutions perceive (SM) as more of an opportunity to be embraced and regulated, or a avoided mitigated, how this reflected in their policies institutional stance reflects regulation SM use practices. There currently no scholarly literature that addresses these for memory sector where has proliferated. This research aims address gap by putting focus on national (MIs), whose strategies operations are often governed public/civic mandate. Design/methodology/approach involves comprehensive review content analysis. The includes studies have analysed other sectors. informs our analysis both terms approaches identifying areas comparisons. Following initial scoping close inspection, sample eight MIs were included Findings led identification 8 core themes 36 sub-themes. main concerned with account management, audience rules use, protecting interests, legal considerations, purpose policy, nature postings referencing information. Also emerged from findings few gaps we expect will provide platform further regard potentially complex role broader cultural heritage relation mandates.
